FAQS

Questions about what it’s like to work together?

Here are some of the most common questions I get from patients about my practice. If you don’t see your question answered below, contact me.

General

  • I’m in Edina, Minnesota, and work with patients online throughout Minnesota. Find my office located within Therapy Suites.

  • New and returning patients are welcome across the state of Minnesota, including Minneapolis, St. Paul, Edina, St. Cloud, Duluth, Rochester, Bloomington, Brooklyn Park, Plymouth, Maple Grove, Woodbury, Little Canada, and St. Louis Park. At this time, we are unable to establish care remotely if you live outside of Minnesota.

  • Set up a free 10-minute consultation call and ask any questions you may have for me. You can self-schedule a consultation here. Finding a doctor or therapist of a good fit may be the most difficult part of the process! I suggest allowing 2-5 appointments to see how it feels. If I’m not a good fit for you, that’s okay! You are in control of when you want to stop naturopathic appointments or therapy sessions.

  • It’s just like in-person appointments, except in the comfort of your own home! A link to the telehealth session will be sent to you via email once an appointment is scheduled. Simply click the link at the time of your appointment and we can begin!

  • Yes. In-person services are available from Therapy Suites in Edina, MN on Mondays, Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Fridays.

    60 Minute Follow-Up: $250

Please note that this does not include the cost of supplements and lab testing.

Initial assessment counseling sessions are 60 minutes long and cost $185.
    50-Minute Counseling Sessions: $150
I’m an out-of-network provider and accept Aetna insurance.

  • Late Cancellation is defined as within 24 hours of your appointment at the time your appointment is scheduled to begin. Any late cancellations or no-shows will result in full fee payment for the missed appointment.

  • No - I work with people of all gender identities and individuals age 6 and older. My naturopathic residency was in family medicine, and my counseling clinical internship was working in community health with children and families. I have worked with individuals from 6 months old to 101 years old.

  • If it is an emergency please go to the nearest hospital or call 911. Katherine Jones, ND, LLC is unable to respond to urgent or emergency situations outside of business hours. If you’d like to reach me, please send an email or ChARM message and I will respond within 2 business days.

  • On January 1, 2022, congress enacted a "No Surprises Act", which is a "new federal protection against surprise medical bills that take effect in 2022. Surprise medical bills arise when insured consumers inadvertently receive care from out-of-network hospitals, doctors, or other providers they did not choose". Under the law, healthcare providers, including mental health providers, must give patients who are not using insurance an estimate of the bill for services.

Katherine Jones, ND, LLC believes in honesty and transparency. There will never be any surprise fees as you will be clearly informed of the cost per appointment before our first appointment. If you have any concerns, please feel free to reach out to Dr. Jones regarding charges, fees, or any questions related to billing.

  • Accepted payment forms include credit/debit cards (Visa, Mastercard, Discover, American Express), ACH bank transfers, checks, and HSA/FSA cards. All payment is due in full at the beginning of each appointment.

  • I currently accept Aetna insurance for counseling sessions only.

I am an out-of-network provider, which means that I do not participate directly with most insurance plans. However, I am happy to provide you with documentation to submit to your insurance for possible reimbursement (i.e., a superbill). Please know that not all insurance plans offer reimbursement for out-of-network providers and some plans may have a deductible or an allowable amount. It is also important to consider that a superbill requires that I list a medical or mental health diagnosis. I recommend calling the customer service number on the back of your insurance card and speaking to a representative for details about your specific plan.

Many insurance companies dictate the type, frequency, and duration of treatment for their members. I have chosen to remain out-of-network with most insurances so that I can fully respect the confidentiality, individual needs, and autonomy of my patients.

  • Yes. I set aside a certain number of naturopathic appointment slots for Naturopathic Sliding Scale patients, and counseling appointment slots for Open Path Psychotherapy Collective members. Open Path Psychotherapy Collective is a nonprofit nationwide network of psychotherapists dedicated to therapy services at a steeply reduced rate for people in need.

Please click here for more information about the naturopathic sliding scale, or here for more information about the psychotherapy sliding scale. If you are a member of Open Path and would like to schedule an appointment, please email us and include your Open Path Member ID in the body of the message.

  • Yes. I am happy to provide both naturopathic medicine appointments and psychotherapy sessions to patients. Please note that these are separate services. We will not talk extensively about your thoughts/feelings in naturopathic appointments, and we will not discuss your biomedical naturopathic care in therapy sessions. Additionally, it is important to understand that seeing me for both naturopathic medicine and mental health counseling would constitute a “dual relationship”, and we will have ongoing informed consent discussions regarding the nature of this dual relationship.

Naturopathic Medicine

  • Naturopathic medicine is a distinct system of health care. It is an art, science, and practice of preventing, diagnosing, and treating conditions of the human mind and body. Naturopathic doctors work with their patients to prevent and treat acute and chronic illness and disease, restore health, and establish optimal fitness by supporting the person's inherent self-healing process, the vis medicatrix naturae.

  • Naturopathic doctors take a minimum of three years of pre-medical studies with a bachelor’s degree requirement, followed by four or more years of graduate education at one of seven recognized colleges of naturopathic medicine. The Association of Accredited Naturopathic Medical Colleges (AANMC) was established in February 2001 to propel and foster the naturopathic medical profession by actively supporting the academic efforts of accredited and recognized schools of naturopathic medicine. The education encompasses basic medical sciences, naturopathic principles and therapeutics, and 1,500 hours of supervised clinical experience. In regulated (or licensed) states and provinces across North America, graduates must also pass rigorous standardized exams to qualify to practice. Currently, 26 jurisdictions, including the District of Columbia, Puerto Rico, and the U.S. Virgin Islands have licensing or registration laws for naturopathic doctors. Licensed naturopathic doctors must fulfill state-mandated continuing education requirements annually, and will have a specific scope of practice defined by their state’s law.

  • No. NDs are not opposed to invasive or suppressive measures when these methods are necessary. Ever since the discovery of antibiotics and vaccinations, conventional medicine has saved countless lives. There are times when there is no substitute for conventional care, for example, emergent health issues, surgeries, and cancer treatment. NDs may refer patients to a specialist to receive conventional care and treatment if necessary and often work in collaboration and conjunction with many other health professionals in order to provide the best comprehensive care for patients.

  • Naturopathic doctors are trained extensively in drug-herb and drug-nutrient interactions to avoid any potential adverse side effects and will provide you with safe treatment recommendations. It is helpful to always keep your doctor fully informed of all medications, supplements, and herbs that you are taking.

  • No. Although Katherine Jones, ND, LLC treats primary care concerns, we cannot be your primary care provider for insurance purposes. I do not have a 24/7 answering service for emergency concerns after business hours, and I do not reserve openings for same-day walk-in appointments. I encourage patients to establish care with a local primary care physician for conventional needs that may arise.

  • New patient visits typically last 90 minutes and will include a complete health history, physical exams, and an initial treatment plan. The goal of our initial visit together is to understand your complete health picture and establish a solid foundation for a long-term approach to your health and wellness.

  • The frequency of visits varies by patient and depends on the complexity of the case and health goals set during the initial appointment. Typically, patients see me once a month for 3-6 months, then go bimonthly, once every 3-4 months, and do occasional check-in or maintenance appointments throughout the year as needed.

  • Yes. Intake paperwork and consent forms are completed electronically in your secure online account.

Please complete all intake paperwork and consent forms at least 48 hours prior to your initial appointment.

Please note that Katherine Jones, ND, LLC reserves the right to cancel your initial appointment if you have not completed the intake paperwork and consent forms at least 48 hours prior to your appointment time.

  • Katherine Jones, ND, LLC provides access to an online pharmacy called Fullscript. You will receive an email after your first appointment with your prescription. You can access Fullscript with this link.

If purchasing supplements over the counter, be aware that Amazon carries some of these supplements illegally which increases the risk they are counterfeit. Many over-the-counter supplements have also been found to have much higher levels of contaminants, heavy metals, allergens, fillers, binders, dyes, and chemicals than pharmaceutical-grade products purchased through a healthcare provider.

  • Visit this link and log in to access your medical records.
Within 2 business days of your appointment, you will receive a list of all dietary, lifestyle, and supplement recommendations on CharmPHR. Lab results are accessible on CharmPHR after reviewing them with Dr. Jones.

  • Message your request to me for a letter of medical necessity using CharmPHR. If a specific form is required by your health insurance company please attach this to the message. A completed form or letter will be emailed to you in CharmPHR within 10 business days.

  • It is important to provide the best care possible and doctors cannot legally give out advice for someone who is not an established patient. I would be delighted to treat your family/friends. Just ask them to make an appointment.

  • I understand that you pay a lot of money for an insurance policy and want to use it to cover lab work. I will give you a complete list of conventional labs that I recommend along with cash-pay pricing for those labs via Rupa Health, which offers significant discounts over insurance prices. You are welcome to take this list of labs and visit with your conventional provider to request they be run through insurance. I do not have referrals in place to attempt to have labs covered by insurance. The best practice is to use a provider you already have an established relationship with.

Functional Medicine/Specialty labs are often not covered by insurance and those details will be explained during your visit if functional labs are recommended.

  • Lab results are sent to me when they are complete. Turnaround time ranges from 3-25 days depending on the processing time of the test. Labs will be available on the Charm patient portal after you have reviewed them with me at a return visit.

  • Yes, basic screening lab work can be ordered outside of a visit via Rupa Health. You will receive an electronic invoice via Rupa Health for the cost of the labs.

  • I would be happy to review outside lab work that is done between appointments and go over the interpretation during an office visit. Please have your clinic fax the lab work to Katherine Jones, ND, LLC at 866-372-1710, or upload the results to CharmPHR.

Please note I will not review the lab work and send interpretation over messaging. That will require an appointment.

Counseling

  • Counseling is a collaborative effort between the counselor and the client. Professional counselors help clients identify goals and potential solutions to problems that cause emotional turmoil; seek to improve communication and coping skills; strengthen self-esteem; and promote behavior change and optimal mental health. Individual counseling is a personal opportunity to receive support and experience growth during challenging times in life. Individual counseling can help one deal with many personal topics in life such as anger, depression, anxiety, marriage and relationship challenges, parenting problems, school difficulties, career changes, and more.

  • An intake session is a 50-60 minute appointment with me to get to know you and what goals you have for therapy. It also helps me determine a mental health diagnosis for you if applicable.

  • The length of therapy varies by client and depends on the goals set in therapy. Typically clients see me weekly for 10-15 sessions, then go biweekly, monthly, and do occasional check-in or maintenance appointments throughout the year as needed.

  • Yes, intake paperwork and consent forms are completed electronically in your secure online account.

Please complete all intake paperwork and consent forms at least 48 hours prior to your initial session.

Please note that your Katherine Jones, ND, LLC reserves the right to cancel your intake session if you have not completed the intake paperwork and consent forms at least 48 hours prior to your initial session.

  • No. At this time I am only providing counseling to individuals and not couples.

  • Therapy does not guarantee anything, but the goal is to promote positive change. It may take several weeks to see progress, which is why I recommend a commitment of at least 8-12 weekly sessions. This allows for consistency and rapport building. However, you may end therapy at any time.

  • I identify as an adult millennial, mixed race (Filipino, White, Black, and Native American [Meherrin Indian Nation]), non-disabled, secular humanist, middle class, first generation United States born, heterosexual, cisgender female. I believe that social expectations for a person of my identity when I was born were that I would work hard in school, graduate from college, and pursue a career in the health field. My worldview was also likely shaped by major world events that affected my childhood and young adulthood such as Y2K, 9/11, social media, and the Great Recession of 2008.

  • It is your personal preference on which therapist you choose. However, most of my clients who are people of color seek me out specifically because I am a mixed-race therapist who can understand the cultural influences and pressures that may contribute to their mental health.
